Community Organizing (join a movement!) 

  • QueerAid-NYC: A community-powered resource hub connecting Queer + trans LGBTQ+ New Yorkers to mutual aid, affirming services, grassroots organizations, and opportunities for collective care. QueerAid centers resource sharing 

  • Black Trans Travel Fund: A Black trans-led mutual aid collective providing Black transgender women with financial and material support for safer transportation, emergency travel, passports, TSA PreCheck, flights, and other essential resources that promote safety, self-determination, and community care.

  • Arm the Dolls: A mutual aid initiative that redistributes resources directly to Black transgender women and trans femmes, helping cover essentials such as housing, food, gender-affirming care, transportation, and emergency needs. Arm the Dolls is rooted in the belief that investing directly in Black trans communities is an act of collective care and liberation.


  • Body Hack: A collectively run party and mutual aid project that creates joyful gathering spaces for trans and nonbinary BIPOC communities while raising funds for grassroots initiatives. Through monthly events, direct redistribution, and community organizing, Body Hack has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for trans-led mutual aid efforts and models collective care through celebration, nightlife, and interdependence

  • RAGGA NYC — A queer Caribbean art collective, cultural platform, and organizing space that brings together artists, performers, and community members across the Caribbean diaspora. Through parties, exhibitions, workshops, mutual aid campaigns, and international initiatives, RAGGA NYC builds spaces for queer Caribbean joy, solidarity, and collective liberation while supporting grassroots organizing in New York and the Caribbean. 

  • GLITS (Gays & Lesbians Living in a Transgender Society) A Black trans-led organization dedicated to ending housing insecurity, health inequities, and systemic violence affecting transgender people. GLITS provides emergency financial assistance, housing support, healthcare navigation, mutual aid, advocacy, and leadership opportunities while building long-term pathways to stability and liberation for Black transgender communities.

  • Thank God for Abortion: A queer grassroots faith-based movement that affirms abortion as a sacred act of bodily autonomy and reproductive justice. Through storytelling, public witness, direct action, mutual aid, and community organizing.

  • Queer Disability Aid: A grassroots mutual aid collective by and for queer disabled people. Queer Disability Aid provides direct financial assistance, virtual support groups, accessible community programming, resource navigation, housing resources, and opportunities for disabled LGBTQ+ people to connect, organize, and care for one another. 

  • Critical Resistance NYC: Part of a national movement working to abolish the prison industrial complex through grassroots organizing, political education, and campaigns that invest in community-based safety instead of incarceration.

  • Release Aging People in Prison (RAPP): A membership-led campaign working to end mass incarceration by organizing with formerly incarcerated people and families to bring aging and elderly people home from prison.

  • ACT UP New York: A  coalition committed to ending the AIDS epidemic through direct action, political advocacy, and mutual aid. ACT UP meets every Monday evening in New York City and welcomes new members interested in organizing around healthcare justice, HIV advocacy, housing, and queer liberation.

  • Emergency Release Fund: Provides bail assistance for transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people held in New York City jails and ICE detention while advocating for an end to cash bail and immigration detention.

  • Brooklyn Community Bail Fund — Posts bail for New Yorkers who cannot afford it while organizing to end pretrial detention and cash bail. The organization also supports community-led efforts to reduce incarceration and invest in alternatives to policing.

  • NYC Books Through Bars — A volunteer-run collective that sends free books, educational materials, and resources to incarcerated people nationwide, supporting self-education, literacy, and intellectual freedom.

  • Brooklyn Jail Support — A volunteer-led mutual aid collective that welcomes people released from Brooklyn jails with food, MetroCards, clothing, emotional support, transportation assistance, and connections to community resources. 

  • Bronx Jail Support — Provides direct support to people leaving the Bronx criminal legal system through transportation, meals, clothing, care packages, and referrals to housing, healthcare, and social services.

  • Queens Court Support & Jail Support — A community-led network of mostly queer and trans organizers providing court accompaniment, jail support, transportation, mutual aid, and resource navigation for people impacted by the criminal legal system in Queens.

Community Mutual Aid 

  • NYC Mutual Aid Hub – A decentralized network of neighborhood-based mutual aid groups across all boroughs.
  • Emergency Release Fund – Pays bail for trans people held in NYC jails and ICE detention.
  • House of Pentacles – A Black trans-led film and media training program focused on storytelling as liberation.
  • Astoria Food Pantry – A volunteer-run, queer-led mutual aid pantry launched during COVID by non-binary organizer Macaela Sears, distributing ~450 grocery bags weekly in Queens 
  • Transgender Equity Fund – Stonewall Community Foundation – Offers grants to NYC-based trans-led groups and initiatives focused on racial and gender justice.
  • Trans Justice Funding Project – A national fund that supports grassroots trans justice work—especially Black, brown, and migrant-led collectives in NYC
